About the Role
We are seeking a Junior Site Engineer for an 18-month contract on a mine based in Limpopo. The successful candidate will assist with the planning, coordination, and supervision of civil engineering activities on site, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and supervision of civil engineering activities on site.
- Support the construction, maintenance, and monitoring of tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and associated infrastructure.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality control checks to ensure workmanship meets required standards.
- Monitor construction progress and provide daily and weekly progress reports to senior engineers and project management.
- Assist with earthworks, drainage systems, pipelines, stormwater management, and road construction within the mining environment.
- Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers on site to ensure project timelines are achieved.
- Participate in tailings dam inspections, stability monitoring, seepage observations, and instrumentation readings.
- Assist with surveying activities, setting out works, and verifying levels and dimensions.
- Support health, safety, environmental, and risk management initiatives in accordance with mine policies and legal requirements.
- Identify and report technical issues, delays, or potential risks and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate site documentation, including reports, test results, as-built records, and daily site diaries.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering
- Previous exposure to mining, earthworks, or heavy civil construction projects
- Knowledge of geotechnical and civil engineering principles
- Familiarity with mining safety regulations and site procedures
- Experience working with contractors and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering software such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D
