About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic with a proven track record of working on FAW trucks to join our team at Greys Recruitment. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our fleet, while providing excellent customer service to our drivers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on FAW trucks.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.
- Repair and replace faulty components, including engines, gearboxes, clutches, brakes, suspension systems, and differentials.
- Perform engine overhauls and rebuilds as required.
- Conduct inspections to identify potential mechanical issues before breakdowns occur.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify vehicle faults.
- Interpret fault codes and implement corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot engine management systems, electrical systems, and fuel injection systems.
- Ensure all maintenance and repair work complies with company safety procedures and manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately.
- Attend to roadside breakdowns when required.
- Minimize vehicle downtime through efficient fault diagnosis and repairs.
- Liaise with drivers and fleet management regarding vehicle conditions and repair requirements.
- Ensure proper use and care of workshop tools and equipment.
- Assist in identifying and requesting spare parts and workshop consumables.
- Monitor parts usage and report shortages.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Qualified Diesel Mechanic (Red Seal Trade Test preferred).
- Valid driver’s license (Code 14 advantageous).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic.
- Proven experience working on FAW trucks is essential.
- Experience with heavy commercial vehicles and fleet maintenance.
- Experience with engine, gearbox, differential, and brake system repairs.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines and vehicle systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Computer literacy and experience using diagnostic software.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
