About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Head Chef to join our prestigious hotel in the Drakensberg, KZN. As a seasoned professional with a passionate and hands-on approach, you will be responsible for leading our kitchen team to deliver exceptional dining experiences for our guests. With a proven track record in similar positions in the industry, you will be expected to make sound decisions in kitchen operations, including food and beverage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct reports: Manage Senior Sous Chefs and Sous Chefs
  • Indirect reports: Hire, train, and manage kitchen staff; set staff schedule; develop recipes and menus
  • Oversee back of house operations
  • Ensure kitchen hygiene audits are completed
  • Monitor team performance and plan culinary actions

Requirements

  • Diploma/ Degree in Hospitality or Culinary Management
  • 10 years experience in the kitchen
  • 4 years experience as Head Chef or executive management role
  • Matric
  • Cost controls
  • Food Safety
  • Recipe development
  • Costing and menu pricing
  • Knowledge of human resources
  • Health and sanitation

Qualifications

  • Diploma/ Degree in Hospitality or Culinary Management

Salary & Benefits

R35 000 – R40 000 per month (gross), DOE, including:

  • Medical aid contribution for the individual
  • Provident fund
  • Accommodation Share in the communal tip pool
  • Uniform and laundering of uniform
  • 6 days off per month
  • 21 days annual leave after 1 full year of service
  • All meals whilst on duty
  • Share of pooled staff tips
