Job Description
The role of Receivable Accounts is integral to the financial operations within the travel, leisure, tourism and hospitality sectors. The successful candidate manages all aspects of accounts receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments, maintaining customer account records, and supporting financial reporting requirements. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with internal teams and external clients.
Job Duties
- Generate and issue invoices to clients promptly and accurately in accordance with agreed terms.
- Monitor outstanding accounts to ensure timely payment and follow up on overdue invoices professionally.
- Reconcile customer accounts and resolve discrepancies or billing disputes efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of transactions, payments and adjustments in the accounts receivable ledger.
- Prepare regular reports on receivables status for management review.
- Collaborate with the sales and customer service teams to address client queries related to billing and payments.
- Apply cash receipts to customer accounts and ensure correct allocation of payments.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities as they relate to receivables.
- Comply with company policies and procedures as well as relevant legislation and accounting standards.
- Identify and recommend improvements to enhance the effectiveness of the receivable accounts function.
Required Qualifications
- A recognised qualification in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
- Proven experience working within accounts receivable or a similar financial role.
Education
- A minimum of a National Senior Certificate or equivalent school leaving qualification.
- Further education such as a diploma or degree in accounting, finance or business administration is highly advantageous.
Experience
- At least two years’ experience in accounts receivable, ideally within the travel, leisure, tourism or hospitality industries.
- Experience using accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, specifically spreadsheets and word processing.
- Experience in handling client queries and resolving billing issues.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, able to liaise effectively with clients and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance requirements relevant to accounts receivable.
- Proficiency in the use of accounting systems and standard office software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certifications in bookkeeping, accounting or finance (for example, a Certificate in Accounting or similar).
- Experience in the travel, leisure, tourism or hospitality sectors.
- Knowledge of customer relationship management systems.
Working Conditions
- This role is office-based in the City of Cape Town, within the Constantia and Constantia Nek area.
- Standard full-time hours apply, with the possibility of occasional extended hours to meet deadlines.
- The work environment is professional, with regular use of computers and telephones.
- The position may require handling confidential financial information with discretion at all times.
- There is minimal requirement for travel, primarily local and occasional visits to clients or company sites.
