South Africa: SHEQ Specialist

Job Description

Purpose The SHEQ Specialist will be responsible for administration and implementation of all Health and Safety initiatives. Focus Areas: Health and Safety Compliance Environmental Management Maintaining ISO accreditation and quality standards Assisting with IOD queries Ensuring compliance with PPE Key performance areas Health and Safety Compliance: Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other related Legislations. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards. Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for employees to promote a culture of safety awareness. Investigate accidents, incidents, and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence. Monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment. Implement and oversee health programs and initiatives to promote employee well-being. Conduct health risk assessments and provide recommendations for preventive measures. Collaborate with healthcare providers and occupational health teams to address employee health concerns. Ensuring all related Health and Safety training is adhered to related to the Print and Production Industry and that all the certifications are up to date. Environmental Management: Develop and maintain environmental management systems to minimize environmental impact. Monitor and report on environmental performance, including waste management and pollution control. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards. Maintaining ISO Accreditation and Quality Standards: Maintaining ISO Accreditation and ensuring quality standards are always applied. Ensuring ISO and related Health and Safety audits are complied with and maintained accordingly. Monitor and evaluate quality processes and procedures to ensure adherence to quality standards. Conduct quality audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement. Collaborate with production and quality teams to implement quality improvement initiatives. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records and documentation related to SHEQ activities. Prepare and submit reports on SHEQ performance, incidents, and compliance to management. Assisting with IOD queries Assisting the HR Department with managing the Injured on duty queries. Maintaining relevant paperwork related to IOD queries. Following up on IOD queries. Ensuring compliance with PPE: Ensuring all relevant staff are equipped with relevant PPE. Ensuring staff compliance with PPE. Essential and Mandatory Requirements Grade 12/ Matric Diploma or Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Quality Management, or a related field. 3-5 years experiences in SHEQ management, preferably in the print and packaging industry. Knowledge of relevant safety, health, environmental, and quality regulations and standards. A valid drivers licence. Preferred skills and experience Interpersonal relationships, discretion and confidentiality. Knowledge of employment and health and safety laws. Experience of report writing utilising excel, word and power point. Strong organisational skills. Ability to work well under pressure. Ability to communicate at all levels. Experience of using effective Health and Safety Information Systems. Sound verbal and written communication skills. Peoples Management skills. Conflict handling skills. Computer literacy.
