About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Sous Chef to join our luxury boutique hotel in the scenic KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, working closely with senior management to deliver exceptional food quality and service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with menu development and maintenance of high standards
  • Ensure smooth service across all meal periods
  • Contribute to stock management and ordering processes
  • Uphold health, safety, and hygiene standards
  • Develop and mentor junior kitchen staff
  • Lead by example in both the pass and prep kitchens

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4–5 years’ solid kitchen experience
  • At least 2 years in a senior or sous chef capacity within a quality hotel, lodge, or fine-dining restaurant environment
  • Formal culinary qualification (advantageous)
  • Proven ability to contribute to menu planning and execute dishes with consistency, creativity, and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated involvement in stock control, food costing, and ordering procedures
  • A track record of working effectively within a team, including guiding and supporting junior kitchen staff
  • Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations (with up-to-date or attainable Food Safety certification)
  • Strong organisational ability and the capacity to remain composed during high-volume service periods
