Job Description

Minimum Requirements Education: Matric with Mathematics and Science (Higher Grade passes required) Diploma in a Technical or Production-related field (NQF Level 6) Required Certificate in Technical or Production-related field (NQF Level 5) Minimum Trade Test (NQF Level 5) Advantageous First Line Management Certificate (FLMP) Advantageous Experience: 5 years experience in Production or Maintenance operations in a manufacturing environment Minimum 2 years in a supervisory capacity Up to 3 years experience working shifts Advantageous Key Responsibilities Production Operations Lead shift activities to ensure production targets are met through efficient use of people and resources Maintain high standards of product quality and operational efficiency Ensure timely and accurate completion of production records and reports Communicate effectively with relevant departments to support smooth production flow Maintenance Coordination Coordinate and ensure first-line and preventative maintenance is performed on plant equipment Issue and manage job cards, and ensure proper work permits are processed for specialized tasks Ensure equipment and plant areas are safely maintained and support strong housekeeping standards Sign off completed maintenance work and report any follow-up needs Compliance & Safety Enforce strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations Identify and report operational risks or areas of concern Monitor adherence to standard operating procedures and legislative requirements Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability within the team Customer & Stakeholder Engagement Maintain effective working relationships across departments and with external stakeholders Represent the plant in relevant meetings and act as a key contact for shift-related matters Address operational challenges with problem-solving and integrity Team Leadership & Performance Management Lead and motivate shift employees to meet performance expectations Conduct regular performance reviews and appraisals Collaborate with HR on training, development, and employee relations Support ongoing upskilling and maintain clear communication across the team Financial & Cost Control Support the budgeting process and promote cost-effective use of resources Monitor and control expenditures within budget guidelines Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities across operations Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Ensure all employees adhere to PPE and safety procedures Conduct regular safety equipment checks and ensure proper sign-off for tasks Maintain awareness of high-speed machinery and operational hazards Oversee employee readiness and medical compliance (e.g., blood lead levels where applicable) Key Competencies & Skills Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of production and maintenance processes in manufacturing Working knowledge of relevant safety, health, and compliance regulations Computer literacy in MS Office, SAP, ERP systems, or job-specific platforms Behavioural Attributes: Decisive and level-headed under pressure Proactive and action-oriented Excellent planning and organisational ability Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Effective communicator (both written and verbal) Resilient and adaptable Able to lead teams and handle conflict situations professionally Customer-focused mindset to quality and safety
