Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Site Supervisor to lead pre-commissioning and commissioning activities on large-scale industrial and process plant projects across South Africa and the broader African region. This leadership role is responsible for managing commissioning teams, coordinating multidisciplinary stakeholders, and ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient plant start-up and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all pre-commissioning and commissioning activities across multiple systems and disciplines
- Ensure equipment readiness, system completion, and handover in line with project milestones
- Develop, review, and implement commissioning strategies, procedures, and schedules
- Oversee commissioning teams, contractors, and vendors on-site
- Drive compliance with South African regulations, project specifications, and international standards
- Manage: System walkdowns and punch listing Mechanical completion and turnover processes Functional testing and start-up activities
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation and corrective actions
- Provide regular reporting on progress, risks, and performance to project leadership
- Coordinate closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams
- Champion a zero-harm safety culture aligned with South African HSE regulations
- Ensure strict adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act requirements
- Lead site safety initiatives, including: Risk assessments and hazard identification Permit-to-work systems Toolbox talks and safety audits
- Empower teams to stop unsafe work immediately
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation)
- Minimum 8 years experience in industrial or process plant environments
- At least 5 years in a senior commissioning or leadership role
- Strong experience in: Pre-commissioning & commissioning execution Large-scale EPC or brownfield/greenfield projects Multidisciplinary systems (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation)
- Solid knowledge of: Commissioning tools, procedures, and documentation Engineering drawings (P&IDs, single-line diagrams, etc.)
- HSE systems and risk management
