About the Role
Nelson Mandela University invites applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in the Department of Geosciences, located along a dynamic coastal environment where marine, estuarine, fluvial, and aeolian systems intersect with the structural geology of the Cape Supergroup. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, develop an independent research programme, supervise postgraduate students, and participate in departmental and institutional activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate and enhance teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Develop, publish, and sustain a productive research programme.
- Supervise postgraduate students (Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral levels where applicable).
- Contribute to curriculum development and innovation in geosciences education.
- Facilitate field-based teaching in areas such as coastal processes, structural geology, and geohydrology.
- Engage with industry, government, and community stakeholders.
- Participate in departmental administration and academic citizenship.
Requirements
- Advanced disciplinary knowledge in Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, or related geoscience fields.
- Demonstrated teaching and learning facilitation skills in higher education.
- Proven or emerging research track record appropriate to career stage.
- Ability to supervise postgraduate students (required for Senior Lecturer level).
- Evidence of, or potential for, attracting external research funding.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- A PhD in Geological Sciences or Applied Geosciences (for Senior Lecturer).
- A MSc in Geological Sciences or Applied Geosciences (for Lecturer).
