Cape Town City Centre: CBU 14771 – Senior Structural Draftsman (Concrete and Structural Steel)

About the Role

Our client, a well-established civil and structural engineering consulting firm operating nationally with offices in Cape Town, is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Draftsman to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed drawings and layouts of structures, ensuring compliance with SANS codes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draughting site plans, geometric setting out and detailed layouts of all structures
  • Preparing detailed structural concrete and structural steel drawings
  • Self-checking work prior to passing on to the project leader for final checking
  • Assisting with measurement of quantities
  • Preparing structural concrete and structural steel tender documents
  • Issuing drawings and schedules once approved for construction
  • Checking structural steel fabrication drawings and fabrication in the fabricators yard and on-site erection as required by the project leader
  • Keeping careful records, drawings, schedules, issue records and quality documentation as instructed by the project leader
  • Mentoring, training, supervising and checking draughtspersons, technicians in all structural drawing, approval of shop drawings, site inspections, snag lists and quality documentation and standards as delegated by the department manager
  • Performing any function of authority as and when delegated by the department manager
  • Assisting with archiving of projects
  • Performing any other duties which may be required from time to time by the department manager or project leader

Requirements

  • National Diploma (Civil Engineering or equivalent)
  • Minimum 10 years structural draughting experience in concrete and structural steel
  • Experience working on major building projects
  • Experience working on major bridge projects (preferable)
  • Ability to work independently & in a team and self-motivated to produce accurate drawings to a high standard within set deadlines
  • Understanding the use and importance of standards in the application of software tools
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and other relevant drafting software (advantage)
  • Reinforcement Detailing experience (advantage)
  • Develop 3D models in the selected modelling software i.e. Revit (advantage)
