Cape Town City Centre: Import & Export Controller

About the Role

The Import & Export Controller is responsible for ensuring seamless import and export operations within our company’s Cape Town City Centre facility. This role requires a highly organized individual with strong knowledge of customs documentation and trade processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compile full import/export documentation for shipment release
  • Prepare documents for shipping lines, Port Health, and DAFF approvals
  • Process Cargo Due Orders and ensure system updates (OTC/SAP)
  • Plan and coordinate container deliveries to cold stores within free time periods
  • Communicate with transporters, cold stores, and shipping lines
  • Monitor vessel schedules and daily shipment updates
  • Request and verify shipping line invoices
  • Ensure approvals, prepare AP documents, and submit to finance
  • Track payments and confirm receipt with shipping lines
  • Monitor Transnet/NPA account balances for operational use
  • Prepare Certificates of Origin and EUR1 documentation
  • Assist with ITAC and DAFF permit monitoring and renewals
  • Ensure compliance with import/export requirements
  • Liaise with procurement on shipment readiness and documentation
  • Follow up on release documents, shipping line approvals, and delays
  • Resolve issues related to container releases and documentation gaps
  • Prepare airfreight release documents for import and export shipments
  • Coordinate collection, delivery, and customs/Port Health processes
  • Manage detained cargo processes when required
  • Update SAP system daily and generate weekly reports
  • Maintain delivery schedules and shipment tracking reports

Requirements

Relevant diploma/certificate in logistics, supply chain, or related field

5 years experience in customs clearing & forwarding environment

Strong knowledge of customs documentation and trade processes

Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and SAP

Matric (Grade 12)
