Junior / Graduate Combustion Engineer (Field Service) – Cape Town Salary Market related About the Opportunity Whether you are a recent graduate looking for a company that values mentorship and long-term career growth, or a junior professional with a few years of experience under your belt, this role offers incredible exposure. You will join a highly collaborative team responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of industrial combustion systems (including boilers, burners, and control systems). What We Are Looking For (Qualifications) We have specific academic criteria for this role based on long-term team retention and role suitability: Preferred: National Diploma (N.Dip.) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering. Open to: B.Tech graduates/professionals who meet the technical and hands-on requirements. Please Note: We are not considering candidates with a B.Eng Degree for this specific position. Experience: We are entirely open to fresh graduates with no experience who have a strong willingness to learn! Candidates with 25 years of relevant industry experience are also highly encouraged to apply. Candidate Requirements & Attributes Must-Haves: A valid drivers licence and a valid passport (willingness to travel both nationally and internationally is essential). Technical Foundations: A strong understanding of thermodynamics and proficient electrical knowledge relevant to control systems. Tech Literacy: Proficient in standard computer applications (Word, Excel, MS Teams). Soft Skills: You must be well-presented, accountable, proactive, and capable of working independently under pressure on client sites. Advantageous Experience: Hands-on exposure to steam and hot water boiler systems (fire-tube, water-tube, or steam generators). Knowledge of pressure vessels, piping, or industrial burners. Familiarity with industry standards/codes (e.g., ISO 9001, SANS 347, SANS 329). Key Responsibilities Service & Commissioning: Attend to on-site breakdowns, fault-finding, and equipment start-ups. Design control panel layouts, carry out burner modifications/retrofits in the workshop, and provide remote or on-site client training. Administration & Reporting: Prepare accurate site reports, quotations, compliance documentation, and utilize specialized software for remote site monitoring. Sales & Client Engagement: Identify upselling opportunities on-site, promote Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and participate in technical client presentations. Teamwork & Development: Support the collaborative, knowledge-sharing team environment and eventually assist in supporting junior team members as you gain experience.
