Cape Town City Centre: Mill Manager

About the Role

The Mill Manager position at our client’s facility in Belville is a permanent leadership role that requires a commercially aware operational leader to oversee the full production function within a complex wheat and maize milling operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for plant performance, production efficiencies, maintenance strategy, inventory management, financial control, compliance, and team leadership across the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily milling operations across wheat and maize production facilities
  • Drive plant efficiencies, extraction targets, and operational performance
  • Oversee preventative maintenance and capital expenditure projects
  • Manage production budgets, cost controls, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure stock control and inventory optimization across raw materials and consumables
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, ISO, HACCP, and legislative standards
  • Lead safety, environmental, and risk management initiatives
  • Develop high-performing teams through coaching, succession planning, and training
  • Coordinate production schedules to meet market demand and service levels
  • Implement operational best practices and benchmark performance improvements

Requirements

  • Qualified Wheat or Maize Miller with GMF Trade Test
  • Approximately 5 years’ production experience, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role
  • Strong understanding of milling operations, extraction optimization, and plant efficiencies
  • Experience managing CAPEX projects, maintenance programs, and production budgets
  • Knowledge of food safety systems, ISO 22000, HACCP, and relevant legislation
