About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned journalist and cultural thinker to lead our growing music and podcasting editorial vertical in Cape Town. As Senior Editor: Music and Podcasting, you will report directly to the Founder and be responsible for overseeing editorial planning, continental networks, and team management. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, founder-led organization that focuses on spotlighting African creativity on its own terms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply 5-10 years of experience working across music and journalism or marketing to lead the music and podcasting vertical.
  • Plan, develop and commission music content, mostly in the form of video, for the Instagram platform.
  • Write and edit briefs, captions, scripts and long-form content to meet established editorial standards.
  • Maintain the editorial integrity and voice of the digital platform.
  • Identify, research and prepare editorial briefs and background research for podcast guests and the host.
  • Recruit and manage a network of advisors and stringers across key African music cities while providing direction to the freelance music report writer.
  • Manage and mentor the Editorial Assistant by providing task direction and performance oversight.
  • Represent the brand and nurture relationships at key music events, festival circuits, showcases and conferences across South Africa and the continent.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience working across music and journalism or marketing.
  • Demonstrable body of work covering African music.
  • Proven senior-level editorial experience in commissioning, writing, editing and managing content.
  • Experience managing freelancers, stringers, or junior editorial staff.
  • University graduate or equivalent qualification.
  • Deep, genuine knowledge of African music alongside a solid working knowledge of digital marketing and publishing.

Qualifications

  • Honours degree is preferable.

Salary & Benefits

  • R60000 per month
