Job Description

Our client in the civil engineering sector is recruiting for a Technician (Civil Engineer) to join their Civil Engineering Department in Cape Town . The role focuses on managing and overseeing civil engineering projects from planning to execution, ensuring delivery that meets quality, budgetary, and time expectations. This hybrid role combines technical site supervision with project management, including stakeholder coordination, reporting, and quality control. The successful candidate will form part of the Project Delivery Team and work closely with the Senior Project Manager, Department Head, contractors, and project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Key Responsibilities Develop and manage project plans, budgets, and timelines. Monitor progress and implement corrective actions when required. Coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to align on goals and deliverables. Prepare and maintain site records, progress reports, and cost tracking documentation. Supervise on-site construction, ensuring design and safety compliance. Conduct conditional assessments and provide input on repairs, upgrades, and new works. Oversee bulk earthworks, sewage pipe laying, structural brickwork, and concrete works. Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures. Conduct material testing and enforce compliance with construction standards. Issue site instructions and ensure contractor adherence to specifications. Calculate quantities and manage procurement of materials. Ensure timely delivery and optimal use of resources. Minimum Education: National Diploma in Civil Engineering. Preferred Education: B.Tech / M.Tech in Project Management. Professional Registration: ECSA Candidate Engineering Technician (or eligible for registration). Minimum 5-6 years experience working in civil engineering and project management across public and private sector projects. Expertise in JBCC and NEC3/4 contracts. Site-based civil or building project experience (essential). Proficiency in surveying, construction supervision, and quality control. Strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Knowledge of construction safety standards and environmental compliance. Excellent note-taking, report writing, and MS Word/Excel proficiency. Familiarity with ECSA/SACPCMP Stage 16 deliverables. Competency in using AI tools for documentation and productivity. Housing developments, building maintenance, landfill sites, and infrastructure upgrades. (Preferred project experience) Projects under municipal infrastructure. (Preferred project experience) Maintenance and refurbishment of building sites, including heritage sites. (Preferred project experience)
