International Payments and Costing Accountant | Cape Town
A dynamic import and distribution enterprise is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented International Payments and Costing Accountant to join their finance team. This critical role manages all financial aspects of international procurement, foreign supplier payments, complex import costings, and foreign exchange compliance. The successful candidate will ensure accurate inventory valuations and maintain strong internal controls within a fast-paced global supply chain environment.
Key Performance Areas:

Foreign Payments & Supplier Management: Process and manage all foreign supplier payments in compliance with company policies and international banking frameworks. Prepare, reconcile, and resolve queries on overseas supplier accounts, including specific transactions relating to the company’s China office.

Import Costing & Inventory Valuation: Calculate and maintain highly accurate foreign currency inventory costings, ensuring all freight, duties, and import-related costs are correctly allocated to stock. Process Goods Received Vouchers (GRVs) and manage data within FileMaker, the in-house inventory system.

Forex & Compliance Management: Manage foreign exchange contracts (FECs), monitor currency exposure, and maintain comprehensive evidence of importation documentation. Ensure strict compliance with South African Reserve Bank (SARB) regulations and exchange control policies, handling blanket approval processes where required.

Financial Reporting & Customs Administration: Calculate, process, and reconcile Customs VAT and import charges. Process general ledger, supplier, and inventory journals, manage marine insurance documentation, and assist the Financial Manager with cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and year-end audit preparation.
Minimum Requirements:

Education: A completed BCom Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant tertiary qualification.

Experience: * 3 to 5+ years of relevant accounting experience within a fast-paced import, retail, or wholesale distribution environment.

Proven experience managing foreign supplier payments and complex import costing models.

Solid working knowledge of South African Reserve Bank (SARB) exchange control regulations and customs procedures.

Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong working exposure to inventory accounting software and ERP systems (experience with FileMaker is an advantage).

Attributes: High-level commercial acumen, exceptional numerical accuracy, strong analytical ability, and the capacity to coordinate with cross-border stakeholders, banks, and freight forwarders.
