Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Technician

A leading packaging and plastics manufacturer in Cape Town is seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimising mechanical equipment and machinery to ensure maximum plant uptime and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and production machinery.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on equipment including injection moulders, extruders, conveyors, compressors, and packaging lines.
- Maintain records of maintenance activities and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with the production team to minimise downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Support installation and commissioning of new machinery.
- Conduct root cause analysis on mechanical failures and implement corrective actions.
Requirements:
- 5+ years experience in mechanical maintenance within the packaging or plastics manufacturing industry.
- Relevant mechanical trade qualification (Millwright or Fitter & Turner advantageous).
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
- Excellent fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work shifts and respond to breakdowns after hours when needed.
