About the Role
A Senior Utilities Analyst is responsible for ensuring accurate utility consumption tracking, billing oversight, and cost recovery across a diverse property portfolio. The role requires strong analytical capability, advanced reporting skills, and a strong understanding of utility management principles. The incumbent will drive efficiency, support sustainability initiatives, and deliver actionable insights to management.
Minimum Requirements Education & Qualifications
- Matric / Grade 12
- BCom Degree or Diploma in Chemical or Electrical Engineering
Experience
- 5+ years utilities management experience within the energy services or property sector
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel
- Utility management software & smart metering systems
- Understanding of electricity, water, and waste management in multi-tenanted environments
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems (solar PV, battery storage)
- Financial literacy: utility billing, budgets, cost recovery, tariffs, municipal rates
- Strong data analytics capability
- Familiarity with South African municipal regulations, compliance, and tariff structures

- Excellent communication skills
- Stakeholder management ability (tenants, service providers, internal teams)

Key Responsibilities Utility Billing & Cost Recovery
- Verify municipal bills and tenant statements
- Review supply meter readings and billing data
- Ensure accurate allocation of utility charges
- Conduct recovery ratio checks and generate building-level reports
Data Analysis
- Collect, validate, and analyse utility data
- Identify anomalies, inefficiencies, and trends
- Develop dashboards, KPIs, and analytical reporting
- Provide insights to support operational and financial decision-making
Query Resolution
- Resolve tenant, municipal, and service provider utility queries
- Work with property, finance, and technical teams to find solutions
- Maintain comprehensive records of all queries and resolutions
- Escalate complex cases when necessary
Support to Management
- Supply data-driven insights for strategic planning
- Prepare reports and presentations for management
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and portfolio-wide utility analysis
- Identify opportunities for efficiency, cost savings, and sustainability initiatives
Database & Records Management
- Maintain accurate and organized utility records
- Manage invoices, meter readings, contracts, and correspondence
- Ensure data integrity within tracking systems
- Support audit and reporting requirements
