Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Legal & Statutory Compliance

  • Fulfil the duties of a legally appointed GCC Engineer (Mines & Works)
  • Ensure compliance with the MHSA and all relevant regulations
  • Oversee engineering legal appointments, audits, and inspections
  • Maintain and enforce engineering standards, procedures, and safety systems

Engineering & Asset Management

  • Lead and manage the engineering function across:
    • Mobile mining fleet (excavators, trucks, dozers, loaders)
    • Fixed plant and infrastructure (crushing, conveyors, pumps, etc.)
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to:
    • Improve equipment availability and reliability
    • Reduce downtime and maintenance costs
  • Oversee contractor performance and engineering service providers

Operational Support & Mine Performance

  • Work closely with mining and production teams to:
    • Align engineering capability with production targets
    • Support efficient stripping and coal extraction activities
  • Monitor and optimise key operational metrics:
    • Equipment utilisation
    • Productivity and throughput
    • Cost per tonne
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives

Mine Planning Integration

  • Support short- to medium-term mine planning processes
  • Ensure engineering inputs are aligned with:
    • Mine plans
    • Production schedules
    • Resource utilisation

Health, Safety & Environmental Management

  • Drive a strong safety-first culture across engineering and operations
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and best practices
  • Support environmental compliance, including:
    • Dust control measures
    • Water and waste management systems

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to engineering teams
  • Collaborate with:
    • Mine Manager and site leadership
    • Production and HSE teams
    • Contractors and external stakeholders
  • Build a high-performance, accountable engineering team

Job Experience & Skills Required (Ideal Candidate Profile):

  • Minimum 10–15 years’ experience in mining operations
  • Significant experience within:
    • Opencast coal mining (highly advantageous)
    • Engineering and maintenance management
  • Proven track record in a senior engineering leadership role
  • Experience acting as an appointed GCC Engineer
  • GCC Mines & Works (Essential)

    Degree or Diploma in:

    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Mining Engineering
    • Or related discipline
