About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating laboratory activities, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, and maintaining quality standards in a micro/biotechnology setting. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a production environment and possess strong analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Product testing against specification: accurate & precise testing against published validated work instructions / reporting of deviations and propose areas for improvement.
- Test Equipment Calibration: equipment calibration/ring test analysis to ensure accuracy of analyses in addition to normalizing and variation between ring tests.
- Communication with Production, Processing and Packaging daily regarding results.
- In-process & Final Testing: release & hold of product based on reliable test results / reporting deviations.
- Personal Development: improve self-knowledge of Lab/Plant Operations & Industry / continuous upskilling Food Safety HACCP/ISO: ensuring compliance, testing, incident reporting, reviewing work instructions, raising DRC on Tempo, Doc Control.
- Assisting with audits, regular environmental & water analysis.
- Managing pathogen testing from Jhb, Dbn, CT samples.
- Lab Activities/Analyses: coordinate all analyses, Preparation of salt solutions for Lab & Drying Plant, Daily sample collection.
- Coordinate testing of molasses, effluent, Cultures preparation, Archiving of retention samples, Coordinate vitamin and nutrient makeup and recording of usages variances.
- Effective organization of cold room and retention library.
- Problem Solving/Trouble Shooting: Maintain quality standards for all product streams and investigate deviations.
- Admin: data Collection, Recording, Data Capture, Filing, Ordering of consumables, Invoice payments Creating COC’s & COA’s,. Tanker and Stock recon spread sheets. Filing of Certificates, Worksheets, Temp charts. Sending and receiving ad hoc samples for testing between business units.
Requirements
- B.Sc Microbiology
- Minimum 2 years lab supervisor/co-ordinator or related experience in production environment
Qualifications
- MS Office/Tempo/Opsuite/Syspro- Computer Competent
- Generating of reports
