About the Role
We are seeking a Data Modelling Specialist to join our team in Johannesburg, responsible for designing and developing logical and physical data models that align with our modelling standards. The ideal candidate will have advanced skills in assessing complex data requirements, identifying potential conflicts in data usage, and ensuring data security in model design.
Key Responsibilities
- Design logical and physical data models in line with the firm’s modelling standards, including Kimball star schema principles and medallion architecture
- Create and maintain enterprise-wide canonical models and reusable data artefacts to support consistency across projects
- Optimise data models for performance, scalability, and ease of use by BI, analytics, and reporting tools
- Ensure data models adhere to agreed naming conventions, metadata standards, and governance frameworks
- Collaborate with data governance, architecture, and engineering teams to ensure models align with business rules, data quality standards, and security classifications
- Maintain a centralised model repository and ensure version control of all modelling artefacts
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data models, including data dictionaries, ERDs, and metadata
- Regularly update models to meet evolving business needs and provide training to legal and business stakeholders on data model functionality
- Engage with business analysts, data stewards, and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into fit-for-purpose data models
- Conduct workshops to validate model designs with business users and technical teams
- Evaluate and recommend modelling tools, techniques, and patterns that enhance the usability, performance, and maintainability of data assets
Requirements
- 4-year Degree / NQF level 7 qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- Up to 6 years of experience in data modelling, data warehousing, or a related field
