Johannesburg: Fibre / Utilities Coordinator (Locates & Wayleaves)

About the Role

The successful candidate will act as the central point of coordination between field technicians, contractors, and internal teams, ensuring that fibre infrastructure is protected during excavation and that all activities align with permitting, wayleave, and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage all incoming utility clearance and locate requests
  • Review, categorise, and prioritise requests based on urgency and due dates
  • Ensure all requests are completed within required timelines
  • Maintain accurate records of completed and pending requests
  • Compliance and Damage Prevention: ensure compliance with excavation, permitting, and utility protection requirements
  • Confirm that fibre infrastructure is identified and marked prior to excavation
  • Maintain documentation for audits and reporting purposes
  • Assist with investigations related to underground infrastructure damage
  • Act as the primary point of contact between contractors, field teams, and internal stakeholders
  • Provide regular updates on request status to operations, construction, and project teams
  • Escalate urgent or high-risk activities that may impact network infrastructure
  • Coordinate with maintenance and construction teams on ongoing field work
  • Maintain logs, completion reports, and performance tracking
  • Generate reports on request volumes, turnaround times, and compliance
  • Track recurring excavation activities and high-risk areas affecting fibre infrastructure

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience in telecommunications, fibre, construction coordination, dispatching, or a similar operational environment
  • Strong organisational and scheduling skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Ability to read maps, construction drawings, or fibre network layouts

Qualifications

  • Experience in fibre optic or telecommunications infrastructure
  • Exposure to wayleaves, permitting, or utility coordination processes
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping systems or ticket management software
