Johannesburg: Final Assembly Manager : Production

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Final Assembly Manager to lead our production department in Johannesburg. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving delivery, quality, and profitability while fostering a positive and engaged culture. You will oversee and direct departmental operations, ensuring effective alignment and integration with the wider organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure day-to-day departmental activities align with company strategy and goals.
  • Coordinate support from other departments (e.g. R&D, Stores, Maintenance) as required.
  • Work closely with upstream and downstream departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Manage and coordinate leave within the department for 40 staff.
  • Implement and administer company policies, attendance, overtime, and corrective actions.
  • Provide cover for Supervisor/Foreman absenteeism where required.
  • Plan, prioritise, and coordinate production, manpower, and projects.
  • Ensure effective shift-to-shift coordination.
  • Oversee and manage process changes, trials, and implementations.
  • Track, analyse, and report on production metrics, KPIs, targets, and variances.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans where targets are not met.
  • Ensure clear, well-defined, approved, standardised work methods are in place along with verification systems to ensure adherence to it.
  • Appoint, lead and coach Supervisors.
  • Identify talent and drive training, development, and cross-training initiatives.
  • Foster a positive team culture and maintain high morale.
  • Conduct performance reviews for Supervisors and team members.
  • Ensure routine quality checks are in place and effectively executed.
  • Address and close out quality issues promptly.
  • Lead and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate major maintenance activities impacting the department.
  • Ensure regular tool and machinery checks are conducted, recorded, and reported.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for departmental health and safety compliance.
  • Promote a safe and healthy working environment.

Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 is essential.
  • Minimum of 3 years “production management” experience within a manufacturing environment is essential.
  • “Final assembly” experience is essential.
  • Automotive / aircraft / machine / engineering industries is required.
  • Proven experience in building, developing, and leading high performance teams.
