About the Role
The Head Waiter (Banqueting) role is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of banquet service operations, ensuring seamless event delivery, and delivering exceptional customer service to guests. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in senior waiter, banqueting supervisor, or head waiter roles within a hotel, conference centre, or hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate banquet service staff during events, conferences, weddings, and functions.
- Ensure all venues are set up according to event specifications and service standards.
- Conduct pre-event briefings with staff to communicate event requirements and service expectations.
- Monitor event execution to ensure smooth service and guest satisfaction.
- Liaise with the Banqueting Manager, Kitchen Team, and other departments to ensure seamless event delivery.
- Oversee venue preparation, table settings, buffet setups, and event breakdown procedures.
- Lead and motivate banquet waiters and casual staff during service.
- Allocate duties and monitor staff performance throughout events.
- Ensure team members maintain professional appearance and grooming standards.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to banquet staff.
- Assist with the training and onboarding of new employees.
Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Hospitality or Food & Beverage qualification will be advantageous.
- Minimum 23 years’ experience in a senior waiter, banqueting supervisor, or head waiter role within a hotel, conference centre, or hospitality environment.
- Strong understanding of banquet and event service operations.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
