About the Role
Join Smith Garb as a Financial Accountant and be part of a close-knit team where your input truly matters. We’re looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly trial balances and management accounts
- Conduct variance analysis and provide insights to management
- Ensure accuracy of balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain IFRS and statutory compliance
- Oversee full month-end close processes (debtors, creditors, bank, inventory, fixed assets)
- Ensure deadlines are consistently met
- Provide guidance and review support to finance team members
- Assist in developing team capability and improving processes
- Oversee coordination with customer services and business support
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor working capital
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives
- Assist with banking, payments, and reporting
- Prepare VAT, PAYE, and statutory returns
- Support audits and maintain strong internal controls
Requirements
- BCom Accounting (or equivalent)
- Professional registration (PA(SA), SAIPA, CIMA, AGA or similar)
- Recently completed articles with post-articles commercial exposure (1-2 years of post article experience)
- Strong understanding of financial accounting, IFRS, and compliance
- Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, financial models)
- Experience in manufacturing or consumer goods environments (advantageous)
