Role Purpose The CNC Operator is responsible for executing manufacturing and production activities through the effective setup and operation of CNC machinery. The role focuses on ensuring accurate machining processes, maintaining equipment, and supporting overall workshop operations to achieve efficient and high-quality production output. The incumbent is also responsible for adhering to safety standards, maintaining equipment integrity, and supporting assembly and general workshop functions as required. Key Responsibilities Machine Setup & Operation Ensure accurate setup and operation of CNC machinery. Set machines according to program requirements and ensure correct functionality. Operate CNC machines for turning, drilling, tapping, milling, chamfering, and related machining processes. Prepare and conduct test runs to verify NC program outputs. Monitor machine operations continuously to ensure optimal performance. Production & Quality Control Maintain high standards of production quality and accuracy. Read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions. Inspect and measure both pre-machined and finished components. Submit workpieces for quality control (QC) checks and approvals. Ensure all production outputs meet required specifications and tolerances. Tooling & Equipment Maintenance Maintain machinery and tooling to ensure operational efficiency. Ensure proper use of machining tools and equipment. Conduct daily inspections of machines before operation. Perform routine maintenance and ensure machinery is in good working condition. Maintain and care for all tools and equipment. Workshop Support & Operations Support broader workshop and production activities. Prepare and load raw materials into machines. Assist with assembly of valves and piping systems where required. Support pressure testing processes when necessary. Assist in general workshop and assembly tasks. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of CNC and machine shop areas. Perform deliveries and collections when required. Health & Safety Compliance Ensure adherence to safety standards and procedures. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Follow all health and safety regulations and procedures. Maintain a safe and clean working environment. General Duties Support operational efficiency through additional responsibilities. Perform general housekeeping within the workshop. Assist with ad-hoc tasks as required by management. Role Requirements Qualifications Matric / Grade 12 essential. Experience Minimum 3 5 years experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment. Experience in valve manufacturing advantageous. Experience in pipe fabrication advantageous. Experience in the metal and engineering industry advantageous. Technical Competencies Knowledge of CNC control systems such as Fanuc, Siemens, and Syntech. Understanding of G-code programming. Strong knowledge of tooling, machine setup, and machining processes. Numerical and mathematical literacy. Understanding of units of measurement. Behavioural Competencies Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Good communication skills. Strong planning and organisational ability. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently. Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach. Additional Requirements Valid drivers licence. Forklift operating ability advantageous. Willingness to work night shifts and overtime. Own reliable transport advantageous. Residing within a 20km radius of Modderfontein preferred. Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects. Remuneration & Benefits Salary: R15,000 CTC per month (negotiable based on experience and qualifications). Provident Fund (50% Employer / 50% Employee contribution).
