Job Description

Key Responsibilities 1. Fault Finding & Repairs Assist qualified Electricians/Technicians during breakdowns and repairs. Perform basic tasks such as cable preparation, connections, and fitting components. Under supervision, check sensors, switches, fuses, and simple control circuits. 2. Routine Electrical Maintenance Support preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks: panel cleaning, tightening terminals, inspecting components, and labelling. Assist with lubrication schedules and visual inspections of motors, cables, and electrical components. Complete simple checklists and report abnormalities. 3. Date Coding Equipment Assist with cleaning printer heads and basic fault finding. Conduct daily/weekly equipment checks. Support OEM technicians during on-site visits. 4. Installations & Modifications Help route and secure cables, trunking, conduit, and trays. Assist with mounting sensors, junction boxes, DB accessories, and other devices under supervision. Maintain neat wiring and installations as guided by senior staff. 5. Mechanical & Cross-Functional Support Assist mechanical technicians with basic tasks. Identify whether issues are mechanical or electrical and report accordingly. 6. Pneumatic Systems Support Assist in checking electrical connections to solenoid valves, pressure switches, and sensors. Trace pneumatic and hydraulic lines alongside electrical cables under supervision. 7. Learning & Skills Development Participate in on-the-job training. Develop understanding of basic electrical principles, safe work practices, pneumatics, and PLC awareness. Learn to read basic electrical diagrams and equipment manuals. 8. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Follow all safety rules, PPE requirements, and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures. Maintain clean and safe work areas and report hazards immediately. 9. Tools, Housekeeping & Administration Care for tools, equipment, and test instruments; return items after use. Keep work areas, panels, and stores organized. Assist with basic documentation, including job cards, checklists, and stock requisitions. 10. Teamwork & Conduct Follow instructions from Electricians and Technicians. Maintain punctuality, attendance, and a learning-focused attitude. Communicate clearly and ask questions to build understanding. Essential Skills & Competencies Basic knowledge of electrical systems and components. Mechanical aptitude and curiosity about machines. Awareness of pneumatics and PLC input/output concepts. Ability to use hand tools safely. Attention to detail, neat workmanship, and pride in work. Good communication, teamwork, reliability, and a positive attitude. Qualifications Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics & Physical Science OR N2 / N3 in Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or related field OR Technical/Electro-Mechanical college background with basic electrical knowledge. Experience Basic industrial experience preferred. Candidates must have experience in an FMCG environment Prior exposure to maintenance, electrical, or mechanical work (even vacation or part-time) is beneficial. Additional Requirements Strong safety awareness and compliance with EHS rules. Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and attend call-outs as part of development. Physically capable of performing maintenance tasks. Willingness to undergo medicals, background checks, and aptitude assessments.
