About the Role
The Senior Chef is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, ensuring the consistent preparation and delivery of high-quality meals at our higher education campus cafe in Sandton. This role requires strong leadership, culinary expertise, and the ability to manage kitchen staff, maintain food safety standards, and contribute to menu development.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily kitchen operations to ensure efficiency and consistency.
- Ensure all food is prepared and presented according to established standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment at all times.
- Prepare, cook, and present dishes in line with menu specifications.
- Monitor food quality, taste, and presentation to ensure excellence.
- Implement and enforce food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Supervise and guide kitchen staff, ensuring effective teamwork.
- Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to junior staff.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Contribute to menu creation, innovation, and seasonal updates.
- Standardise recipes and ensure consistency in food preparation.
- Monitor food trends and introduce new ideas where appropriate.
- Manage stock levels and oversee ordering of supplies.
- Ensure proper storage and rotation of ingredients.
- Control food costs, minimise waste, and maintain budget targets.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
