About the Role
This is a technically demanding, commercially aware role sitting at the intersection of engineering design, project delivery, and client-facing support. The Pre-Sales & Project Engineer will be responsible for producing high-quality system designs, collaborating with sales teams, and delivering exceptional technical support to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce technically accurate system designs for BESS, solar backup, and hybrid energy proposals in support of the sales team.
- Develop single-line diagrams using CAD tools and system yield models using Helioscope or equivalent.
- Compile bills of materials, cost estimates, and technical specifications meeting client load requirements and margin targets.
- Collaborate with sales to ensure proposals are competitive, technically sound, and submitted within agreed turnaround times.
- Review and technically sign off all proposals before issue to clients.
- Install and operate power quality and energy logging equipment at client sites independently.
- Analyse logged data to develop detailed load profiles and inform system sizing decisions.
- Produce clear, client-ready energy audit reports translating technical findings into actionable recommendations.
- Support the sales team in using energy audit outputs to strengthen commercial proposals.
- Commission BESS, solar backup, and generator integration projects end-to-end across the Western Cape.
- Manage site activities, coordinate with installers and clients, and ensure handover documentation is complete.
- Programme and commission generator control logic (Deepsea, Comap, Smartgen) and integrate generators into their systems.
- Achieve zero critical defects or rework incidents post commissioning.
- Provide first-line Victron technical support to clients and the internal sales team.
- Resolve VRM remote installation issues and advise on Victron product configurations.
- Diagnose and resolve faults across electrical, electronic, and firmware layers remotely and on-site.
- Maintain high client satisfaction and ensure no escalations go unresolved.
- Manage the Cape Town Victron authorised RMA centre (approximately half a day per week).
- Assess, repair, or replace Victron equipment strictly per Victron RMA guidelines.
- Maintain accurate case records, turnaround logs, and stakeholder reporting.
Requirements
- Qualified Electrician (Red Seal) or relevant electrical/electronic engineering qualification with a demonstrably strong, tech-savvy approach to modern energy systems.
- N2 Industrial Electronics and/or Electrical Trade Theory or equivalent.
- Minimum 23 years’ hands-on experience commissioning solar, BESS, and/or backup energy systems in a C&I environment.
- Demonstrable Victron Energy product experience; Victron certification strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Helioscope or equivalent PV design tools.
- Experience installing power quality and energy loggers; ability to analyse data for system sizing.
