Job Description
The incumbent responsibilities include ensuring that all the respective electrical engineering tasks and targets are achieved, in cooperation with other engineers and the Head of Department. These shall mainly be responsibilities associated with ECSA work Stages, and others as detailed below.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY.
Business Development and Support
- Attend tender briefings, prepare tender documentation, write method statements, assist with pricing calculations, and contribute to tender processes as and when required. a. Comply with Company procedures and processes in terms of project registration and risk analysis.
- Comply with Quality procedures by ensuring auditable trail of actions during full life cycle of project delivery process all in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures.
- Comply with and embrace Health and Safety requirements in the workplace as well as on construction sites.
- Ensure that required services meet applicable statutory and regulatory requirements
- Contribute to the marketing and business development of the Electrical Department to on-board new clients/projects.
Internal Project Management, Health and Safety, Administration and Quality Management Procedures
- Comply with Company procedures and processes in terms of project registration and risk analysis.

Project delivery and management
- Actively lead, participate, and contribute to the design and technical aspects of projects in order to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and to specification.
- Paramount to this role is conceptualisation, design development, and producing detail design work, as well as delivering contract documentation, specifications, and drawings.
- Sign-off on engineering designs by taking professional responsibility as per ECSA guidelines for designs executed.
- Successfully manage small to medium size projects.
- Design of electrical and electronic building services for various types of projects including but not limited to.
- Design of services/systems such as, but not limited to power, lighting, fire detection, access control, CCTV, nurse call, PA, emergency services (generator/UPS), telecoms containment, fibre networks and solar PV/BESS systems.
- Detailed knowledge of renewable energy designs will be an added advantage, this will include solar PV design, BESS, etc.
- Ensure that project start-up processes are followed, and the project scoping is clear and approved.
- Ensure that changes comply with project change management processes.
- Provide technical support, supervision and advice to the discipline team and other project teams and participate in peer reviews.
- Prepare project documentation such as proposals, estimates, budgets, and schedules.
- Prepare and evaluate alternative concept designs, and liaise with other disciplines, both internally and externally.
- Develop detail designs or detail design/build specifications, manage the preparation of drawings, and prepare tender documentation, in order to produce engineering deliverables of a high standard.
- Facilitate and assist with the tender and adjudication process leading up to contractor appointment and site handover.
- Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Plan, coordinate and manage the design, procurement, and construction of assigned projects.
- Conduct contract administration and do testing, commissioning, and inspections of installations.
- Develop initiatives to improve the cost effectiveness and efficiency of project execution.
- Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports, and follow required checking procedures.
- Present design solutions to clients for approval.
- Responsible for routine administration tasks as required from time to time.
Training and Mentoring
- Participate in continuous professional development training to maintain professional registration.
- Mentor, coach, train, and provide technical leadership to others who are registered as candidate engineers/technologists.
Leadership and Relations
- Maintain good working relations with all stakeholders, both internal and external to the Company.
- Pro-actively liaise with clients to ensure the Company meets requirements.
- Effectively manage project teams to control risks and to achieve targets on time and within budget.
- Assist with the compilation and review of discipline specific technical standards, templates, and technologies.
EDUCATION, LANGUAGE & QUALIFICATIONS
- B. Eng degree in Electrical Engineering at a recognized institution.
- Professional registration is preferred or be eligible for Professional registration (Pr. Eng) with ECSA within one year of appointment.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Ten or more years of relevant experience post degree qualification (position will be dependent on years’ experience).
- Experience in AutoCAD/REVIT, as well as scheduling software like MS Projects will be an added advantage
- Proven ability to execute designs, work as part of a team, as well as manage small to medium projects.
- High level of general computer skills, e.g., MS Office suite of software, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
- Good financial acumen in project planning, control, and execution.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Ability to manage and interact with people effectively.
- Fluent in English.
- Be a team player and work well with others.
- Knowledge & experience of South African working conditions including SANS 10142 and 10400-XA.
- Must be able to work independently and execute all stages of a project with minimum to no supervision.
- High level of specialised computer skills is key to this role, e.g., Autodesk suite of software, especially AutoCAD, Helioscope or other solar PV design experience will be beneficial, ReticMaster, DIALux and Relux.
- Good problem-solving skills and application of engineering judgement.
- Diligent and able to work under consistent pressure to meet deadlines.
- Client focused (both internal and external clients).
- Design accuracy and attention to detail is crucial.
- Ability to grow and maintain client relationships.
