About the Role
Network Finance is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer (Solar) to join our team in Western Cape. As a key member of our renewable energy infrastructure delivery team, you will play a crucial role in advancing our sector and contributing to the growth of our business. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned electrical engineer with expertise in solar PV projects to take on technical ownership and drive project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full technical ownership of electrical engineering and grid integration across multiple renewable energy projects
- Lead design reviews covering substations, MV/HV infrastructure, protection systems, and plant controls
- Oversee external consultants and Owner’s Engineers to ensure quality and compliance across all deliverables
- Ensure projects meet grid code requirements, engineering standards, and performance objectives
- Provide technical leadership during construction, commissioning, and energisation phases
- Manage grid connection studies and coordinate with utilities and key stakeholders
- Guide protection philosophies, plant controller strategies, and operational frameworks
- Support procurement processes, including technical evaluations and Factory Acceptance Testing
- Ensure seamless integration into operational environments, including SCADA and monitoring systems
- Contribute to due diligence processes for project acquisitions
- Drive continuous improvement and engineering standardisation across the portfolio
- Champion a strong safety culture across all project phases
Requirements
- BEng/BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in power generation or renewable energy projects
- Strong exposure to utility-scale Solar PV projects (experience with BESS and Hydro advantageous)
- Proven experience with grid integration, substations, MV/HV systems, and protection schemes
- Experience across full project lifecycle phases
- Background in managing consultants and reviewing technical documentation
- Strong knowledge of grid compliance and utility interface processes
Key Skills
- Advanced understanding of renewable electrical systems and grid integration
- Ability to interpret and challenge SLDs, electrical designs, and control architectures
- Experience with SCADA, PPC, EMS/PMS systems and plant controls
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk management capabilities
- Effective stakeholder management and coordination skills
- Ability to make decisive, high-level technical decisions
