Primary Purpose
A Semi-Skilled Coppersmith you will be responsible for the effective contribution to the organisation’s success by fulfilling responsibilities with dedication, professionalism, and alignment with company values.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as Vernier callipers.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all basic machine tools, as well as many specialized or advanced variation tools, to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, as well as to determine product dimensions and tolerances. Select appropriate tools, machines, and materials for preparation of machinery work.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to indicate the placement of cuts.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Check workpieces to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Move or arrange for the movement of units/furnaces to and from the testing area.
  • Assemble parts as required for the final product.
  • Knowledge of gas brazing and soldering techniques.
  • Perform flow, pressure, and megger testing to ensure system integrity.
  • Number and/or label items for identification and organization.

Required company responsibilities:

  • Productivity – follow formal/written and informal/verbal instructions and procedures as the above processes may change.
  • Ensure that good housekeeping practices are followed.
  • Health and Safety – wear the protective equipment issued to you while working.
  • Follow any lawful instruction required by management.
  • International/Local commissioning and field service – as required for commissioning and on-site work.
  • Ensure all equipment issued to you needed for jobs and projects are kept safe.

Experience & Qualification

  • Job-specific knowledge with a minimum qualification of grade 10.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in relevant field.
  • Must have Red Seal Boilermaker Qualification
  • Basic proficiency in relevant technical tools or systems necessary for the role.
  • Ability to work as a team member and participate in projects that involve or impact the entire company.
  • Customer service orientation and emphasis on results, diplomacy, multitasking and priority setting.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings accurately.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools for various tasks.
  • Skilled in various types of brazing techniques.

  • The ability to read and write in English (Matric)
  • To perform simple mathematical calculations (Matric).
  • Good practical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to perform work duties on his/her own or in a team.
  • Must perform duties according to the Health and Safety standards.
  • Must work according to Quality Control Systems.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings accurately.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools for various tasks.
  • Skilled in various types of brazing techniques.
