Requirements for Candidate Construction Health & Safety Officer (CHSO) Project Location: Constantia, Cape Town Contract Duration: 2 Years Salary: R13 000.00 per month (before statutory deductions) Minimum Requirements 1. Grade 12 / Matric Certificate. 2. Recognised Health & Safety qualification (SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent). 3. Registered as a Candidate Construction Health & Safety Officer (CHSO) with SACPCMP. 4. Must work under the guidance of a registered SACPCMP mentor / Professional CHSO as required for candidate development. 5. Valid First Aid certificate. 6. Fire Fighting / Fire Marshal training certificate. 7. Incident Investigation training certificate. 8. Risk Assessment training certificate. Experience 1. 1–3 years’ experience in construction health & safety environment. 2. Exposure to building, civil, scaffolding, excavation, and work at height activities will be advantageous. 3. Experience with compiling safety files, inspections, and toolbox talks. Knowledge & Competencies 1. Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993). 2. Understanding of Construction Regulations 2014. 3. Ability to conduct site inspections and identify hazards. 4. Ability to assist with Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Safe Work Procedures. 5. Good administration and record keeping skills. 6. Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook). Key Responsibilities 1. Assist with implementation of the Project Health & Safety Plan. 2. Conduct daily site inspections and report unsafe acts/conditions. 3. Monitor PPE compliance and general housekeeping. 4. Conduct inductions and toolbox talks under supervision. 5. Keep registers, checklists, and safety records updated. 6. Assist with incident reporting and investigations. 7. Liaise with site management and workforce on safety matters. 8. Follow up on corrective actions and close-outs. 9. Participate in mentorship reviews, logbook submissions, and professional development activities. Personal Attributes 1. Good communication skills. 2. Willingness to learn and grow in the safety profession. 3. Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated. 4. Ability to work under pressure in a construction environment. 5. Professional attitude and good people skills. Additional Requirements 1. Valid driver’s licence will be advantageous. 2. Own transport preferred. 3. Medically fit for construction site work. 4. Available for full project duration of 2 years.
