Durban Central: Engineer in Training (EIT) – Mechatronics Engineering posted by Network Contracting

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design, development, and improvement of manufacturing and automation systems.
  • Support production and maintenance teams with technical troubleshooting and fault finding.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and process optimisation projects.
  • Assist with PLC, robotics, sensors, and automated control systems.
  • Analyse equipment performance and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
  • Support preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives.
  • Participate in engineering investigations, root cause analysis, and problem-solving activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and engineering data analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including production, maintenance, and quality departments.

Minimum Requirements

  • BSc or BEng Degree in Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Academic average of 65% and above.
  • Recent graduate or up to 2 years’ relevant experience within manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of automation, robotics, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.
  • Exposure to PLC programming, instrumentation, and control systems will be advantageous.
  • Good analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a manufacturing environment.

Advantageous Skills

  • Exposure to Siemens, Allen Bradley, or other PLC platforms.
  • Knowledge of CAD software and engineering design tools.

  • Internship or vacation work experience within manufacturing environments.
