In Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa, the trucking and transport industry is a vital sector, with a high demand for skilled professionals to manage the movement of goods and people. Typically, job opportunities in this field are available across various industries, including manufacturing, logistics, and construction. Generally, the demand for truck drivers, dispatchers, and other transport-related roles remains steady due to the country’s growing economy and increasing trade activities.
When it comes to salaries, it’s common to expect a salary range of R 40 000 – R 80 000 per annum for entry-level positions, depending on factors such as experience, company size, and industry sector. However, salaries can vary significantly depending on individual circumstances. For example, experienced truck drivers or those working in larger companies may earn higher salaries, typically ranging from R 60 000 to R 120 000 per annum. On the other hand, salaries for junior roles may start at around R 20 000 – R 40 000 per annum.
Common skills required for trucking and transport roles include a valid driver’s license, good communication skills, basic math skills, and an understanding of logistics and transportation regulations. Typically, companies also look for candidates with experience in the industry, as well as certifications such as a commercial driver’s licence (CDL) or a hazardous materials handling certification. Other valuable skills may include proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience with logistics software, or knowledge of route planning and optimization techniques.
