Job Description
Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for mechanical components and assemblies
Support senior engineers during the design phase, ensuring concepts are translated into accurate and practical drawings
Assist in developing new designs with a focus on functionality and manufacturability
Maintain and update engineering drawings, ensuring all revisions are accurately recorded and archived
Compile and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support production requirements
Upload, organise, and maintain CAD data, BOMs, and technical documentation within the PLM/PDM system
Ensure proper version control of all drawings and technical documents in line with company standards
Ensure all drawings comply with relevant industry standards (ISO/SANS) and internal protocols
Collaborate with production, procurement, and sales teams to resolve design queries and implement improvements
Liaise with external suppliers where required to support design and manufacturing processes
Skills & Experience:
1–2 years’ experience in a technical drawing or drafting environment (internship experience advantageous)
Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or AutoCAD
Basic understanding of PLM or PDM systems
Foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering principles
Good understanding of mechanical components and manufacturing processes (e.g. sheet metal, welding, machining)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Strong attention to detail with a structured and organised approach to work
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Passion for engineering, manufacturing, and emerging technologies
Qualifications:
Grade 12 (Matric)
National Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Draughting, or a related technical field
Valid driver’s license
