About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper to oversee and manage the full bookkeeping function within a fast-paced business environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supervising daily accounting operations, ensuring statutory compliance, and supporting month-end and year-end financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and oversee accurate and up-to-date financial records and ledgers
  • Manage the full accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Perform and review bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare, review, and submit VAT returns and other statutory submissions
  • Oversee payroll processing and maintain accurate employee financial records
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journals and accruals
  • Prepare management accounts and financial reports for internal stakeholders
  • Monitor cash flow and assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and relevant legislation
  • Identify process improvements and implement efficient financial controls
  • Support and guide junior finance or administrative staff where required

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Bookkeeper or in a similar senior finance role
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, or Xero
  • Solid understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Experience managing payroll, VAT, and statutory compliance processes
  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle confidential information professionally
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification (AAT, Diploma, Certificate, or equivalent preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
