About the Role

Our client, a respected hospitality group with an established portfolio of well-loved restaurants in Johannesburg, is seeking two talented and hands-on Head Chefs to take full ownership of their respective kitchens. The successful candidates will be responsible for leading high-volume kitchens that operate at the upper end of the Johannesburg dining scene.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement menus that showcase global flavours, seasonal ingredients, and contemporary plating.
  • Source and procure high-quality ingredients while maintaining cost control.
  • Lead and manage kitchen teams to ensure consistency and excellence in food preparation.
  • Implement and maintain efficient kitchen systems, including food costing, GP management, and wastage control.
  • Foster a positive kitchen culture that promotes skill development and growth among junior staff.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent quality and delivery.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a passion for the South African dining scene and a commitment to ongoing innovation.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Head Chef or senior chef role within an upmarket, high-volume kitchen.
  • Prior experience at well-regarded Johannesburg restaurants is a distinct advantage.
  • Strong creative range across global flavours, seasonal ingredients, and contemporary plating.
  • Solid financial acumen: food costing, GP management, wastage control, and supplier relationships.
