Job Purpose
The Senior ISS Technician is responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, fault-finding, and optimisation of Companys Integrated Safety Systems (ISS), including proximity detection, collision avoidance, and related digital mining technologies.
This role requires a highly experienced qualified Auto Electrician who operates with minimal supervision, provides technical leadership on site, and ensures systems perform to the highest safety, quality, and compliance standards in a mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational
Install, commission, configure, and test MPI ISS solutions, including proximity detection and collision avoidance systems, on mining equipment.
Perform advanced fault-finding and diagnostics on electrical, electronic, and control systems.
Ensure correct integration of ISS with OEM machine systems and site infrastructure.
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal system availability and performance.
Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts accurately.
Ensure all installations comply with mine standards, OEM requirements, and relevant legislation.
Fatigue Monitoring Systems (FMS)
Install, configure, and commission Fatigue Monitoring Systems on HDV and LDV vehicles.
Perform system setup including calibration, parameter configuration, and integration with vehicle electrical systems.
Diagnose and repair faults on fatigue monitoring systems including cameras, sensors, control units, and alarms.
Conduct system testing to ensure proper functionality and compliance with site safety requirements.
Perform preventative maintenance and periodic inspections of fatigue monitoring systems.
Attend to breakdowns related to fatigue monitoring systems and restore system functionality.
Ensure installations and configurations meet client, mining site, and safety standards.
Provide technical support and guidance to Junior Technicians during installations and maintenance.
Safety & Compliance
Adhere strictly to mine health and safety regulations, company policies, and procedures.
Complete all required documentation, risk assessments, inspections, and reports accurately and on time.
Identify potential system risks and proactively implement corrective actions.
Promote a strong safety culture aligned with MPIs mission of saving lives.
Leadership & Mentorship
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training to junior technicians.
Support site supervisors with technical input and problem-solving.
Act as a technical escalation point for complex ISS issues on site.
Lead by example in professionalism, safety behaviour, and work ethic.
Qualifications
Qualified Auto Electrician Trade Tested
Relevant mining or OEM system training (advantageous)
Valid drivers licence (Code B or higher)
Experience
Minimum 58 years experience as an Auto Electrician in a mining environment
Proven experience working on mobile mining equipment
Experience with proximity detection, collision avoidance, or safety-critical systems (advantageous)
Technical Skills
Strong electrical and electronic fault-finding skills
Knowledge of CANBUS systems, sensors, controllers, and safety interlocks
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
Computer literacy for diagnostics, configuration, and reporting
