Job Description
A leading local manufacturer is looking for a proactive and experienced SHE Representative with strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations to join their team in Middelburg. This is an exciting opportunity for an organized professional to drive safety excellence across the site by conducting regular inspections, performing hazard-identifying risk assessments, and ensuring full compliance with the OHS Act and related environmental standards. The ideal candidate will take a hands-on approach to monitoring workplace incidents, delivering impactful safety inductions and toolbox talks, and supporting management in the development of robust SHE policies. Responsibilities:
- Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental laws and internal protocols.
- Perform routine site audits and risk assessments to proactively detect and address workplace hazards.
- Oversee the reporting and analysis of accidents and near-misses, implementing corrective strategies to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct employee safety inductions and lead regular toolbox talks to maintain high awareness levels.
- Verify that all safety signage, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and emergency tools are functional and readily available.
- Collaborate with the management team to design and execute effective SHE programs and procedures.
- Act as the primary link between staff, management, and external regulatory bodies on all safety matters.
- Manage and update all essential records and reports to ensure the facility remains audit-ready.
Requirements:
- Hold a Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Possess formal certification or training as a Safety Officer or SHE Representative.
- Demonstrate at least 23 years of hands-on experience in a dedicated safety or SHE-focused position.
- Display comprehensive knowledge of the OHS Act, environmental statutes, and pertinent industry standards.
- Maintain a working understanding of ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 management systems.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication abilities to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Show a proven ability to evaluate workplace risks and propose practical, effective solutions.
- Operate with a proactive and highly organized mindset, capable of managing tasks without constant supervision.
