About the Role
Our client, a large independent grocery retail business in the Namaqualand Region, is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead a high-volume, multi-department food retail operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full daily operation of a large grocery retail store and driving store standards, availability, merchandising, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full daily operation of a large grocery retail store
- Lead and manage department heads, supervisors, and store staff
- Drive store standards, availability, merchandising, and customer service
- Manage stock control, shrinkage, wastage, and stock rotation
- Oversee fresh departments and ensure high standards are maintained
- Monitor sales, margins, expenses, and overall store performance
- Ensure strong controls around receiving, cash, admin, and stock movement
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and quickly
- Ensure compliance with food safety, health, and safety, and store procedures
- Work closely with ownership to improve store performance
Requirements
- Solid experience in grocery retail
- Experience in a large food retail or supermarket environment
- Strong understanding of stock control, shrinkage, wastage, margins, and fresh departments
- Proven ability to lead a large team
- Strong commercial and operational understanding
- Good customer service standards
- Practical problem-solving ability
- Willingness to be based in the Namaqualand Region
- English and Afrikaans would be advantageous
