About the Role
The Secunda: Principal Analyst role involves performing routine laboratory analyses to determine product properties and characteristics, while maintaining a strong focus on laboratory safety and adhering to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform routine laboratory tests and analyses on samples in accordance with established procedures and standards.
• Prepare samples, reagents, and laboratory equipment for analysis.
• Record and report test results accurately in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and/or laboratory logbooks.
• Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards, procedures, and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
• Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations within the laboratory.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper organisation of the laboratory work area.
• Assist with sample collection, labelling, and storage where required.
• Report abnormal results, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to supervisors promptly.
Requirements
Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and testing methods. High attention to detail and accuracy. Basic numerical and data recording skills. Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures. Good communication and teamwork skills. Basic computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Excel and data entry systems). Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
Qualifications
Grade 12 with Mathematics or N3 Technical Mathematics. Physical Science is advantageous. A National Diploma in Chemistry or related field will be an added advantage.
