Job Description
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing profitable contract logistics opportunities, including warehousing, distribution, fulfilment, and value-added services. This role requires a commercially driven individual who can translate customer requirements into practical, scalable logistics solutions and convert opportunities into long-term contracts.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
- Identify and secure new business across warehousing, distribution, and fulfilment solutions
- Develop and execute targeted sales strategies across key sectors including FMCG, retail, manufacturing, mining, industrial, automotive, and e-commerce
- Generate leads through proactive prospecting, networking, and client engagement
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial contact through to negotiation, implementation, and handover
- Build long-term client relationships and drive sustainable contract growth
Solution Design & Operational Alignment
- Conduct detailed client needs assessments and identify supply chain challenges
- Collaborate with internal teams to design commercially viable and operationally sound solutions
- Contribute to warehouse design, distribution planning, and inventory flow strategies
- Develop tailored solutions covering storage, handling, fulfilment, and value-added services
- Ensure operational feasibility before finalising commercial agreements
Commercial & Contract Management
- Prepare pricing models, costings, and detailed proposals
- Participate in RFQs, tenders, and contract negotiations
- Ensure all proposals meet required profitability and service standards
- Support implementation and transition of new contracts
- Identify opportunities to grow revenue within existing client accounts
Client Relationship Management
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across procurement, supply chain, operations, and finance
- Conduct regular business reviews and identify continuous improvement opportunities
- Support client retention through proactive engagement and solution development
- Identify cross-selling opportunities across broader logistics services
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in contract logistics business development
- Strong understanding of warehousing, distribution, inventory management, and supply chain operations
- Proven track record of securing new business and achieving commercial targets
- Experience preparing proposals, pricing models, and client presentations
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and relationship management skills
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to e-commerce fulfilment and value-added logistics services
- Experience working with warehouse management systems and operational KPIs
- Industry experience across FMCG, retail, manufacturing, mining, industrial, or automotive sectors
- Experience supporting new contract implementation or warehouse start-ups
