Job Description
- Assist in ophthalmic surgeries, ensuring a sterile environment and correct handling of surgical instruments.
- Provide high-quality pre-operative and post-operative care to ophthalmic patients.
- Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and the wider theatre team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Perform scrubbing duties for ophthalmic procedures, and assist in other surgical disciplines when required.
- Support and monitor patients undergoing local, regional, or general anaesthesia.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with hospital policies.
- Adhere strictly to infection control, health, and safety standards at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
- Matric
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Valid registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Over 5 years of nursing experience, including theatre experience.
- Previous experience in ophthalmology or related disciplines is preferred.
- Scrubbing experience in ophthalmic surgeries is highly advantageous.
- Experience in other surgical fields will be beneficial.
- Anaesthetic training or relevant experience is advantageous but not essential.
