Job Description
The Maintenance Electrician works closely with the maintenance team to minimise equipment downtime, support preventative maintenance programs, and maintain electrical compliance across the facility.
The position also provides technical support to the wider maintenance department and assists with installations, equipment upgrades, and operational troubleshooting when required.
Education & Training Requirements
- Trade Test: Qualified Electrician (Red Seal preferred)
- Wireman’s Licence (advantageous)
- Valid driver’s licence (Code 08)
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 3+ years electrical maintenance experience in industrial or manufacturing environments
- Experience working with three-phase electrical systems
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems on industrial equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Experience maintaining welding machines and workshop electrical tools
Duties:
1.1. Electrical Systems Maintenance
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems across workshop and facility infrastructure.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults affecting production equipment.
- Maintain wiring, control systems, and electrical components within machinery.
- Inspect and repair electrical equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, and control panels.
- Maintain plant electrical infrastructure including power distribution systems.
1.2. Preventative Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspection, cleaning, and testing of machinery and electrical equipment.
- Assist in developing and executing preventative maintenance programs.
- Monitor electrical systems for potential faults or deterioration.
- Ensure equipment remains compliant with electrical safety standards.
1.3. Electrical Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Diagnose root causes of electrical and related mechanical malfunctions.
- Repair or replace faulty components, wiring, or control systems.
- Maintain electrical power tools and workshop equipment.
- Work with high-voltage three-phase power systems when required.
1.4. Workshop Maintenance Support
- Assist the maintenance department with mechanical maintenance tasks where required.
- Support equipment installation, upgrades, and commissioning activities.
- Assist production teams with electrical troubleshooting affecting operational equipment.
- Perform additional maintenance tasks as required by the Maintenance & Property Manager.
1.5. Asset & Maintenance Management
- Maintain records of equipment repairs and electrical maintenance activities.
- Monitor maintenance stock levels and assist with ordering of required components.
- Maintain maintenance registers and equipment documentation.
