About the Role
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for the full financial accounting function, including property and lease accounting, reconciliations, month-end reporting, tenant and creditor accounting processes, and ensuring compliance with relevant financial and property legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full financial accounting function, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Oversee tenant and lease accounting, including billing, recoveries, escalations, deposits, and rental reconciliations
- Prepare monthly management reports, arrears reporting, rent rolls, and variance analysis
- Ensure accurate processing and reconciliation of debtor, creditor, and general ledger accounts
- Manage VAT reconciliations and ensure compliance with relevant financial and property legislation
- Support audit processes and maintain strong internal controls and audit trails
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Work closely with leasing, operations, and property management teams regarding tenant accounts and financial queries
- Maintain accurate financial records and reporting within the property management system
- Identify process improvements and support operational efficiencies within the finance function
Requirements
Completed BCom Accounting or related financial qualification
Minimum 35 years experience in a Financial Accountant role within the property sector
Strong understanding of lease accounting, reconciliations, VAT, accruals, and property financial processes
Experience working on a property management or ERP system advantageous
Strong analytical ability with high attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Qualifications
Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.) not specified
