About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Head of Commercial to join our team in Cape Town City Centre, responsible for driving business growth and profitability through strategic planning and execution. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in logistics and freight management, with expertise in financial management, pricing strategies, and international supply chain management.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies enhancing the overall profitability of the business
- Manage cost savings & participate in business improvement initiatives and projects
- Establish and enforce credit control policies and limits, payment disputes/escalations
- Overall management of debtors, creditors, processing functions
- Cash flow forecasts, effective payables management
- Improve order processing efficiency and turnaround times
- Develop SOPs for order management processes
- Ensure seamless order fulfilment – pricing, discounts, and terms applied correctly
- Lead price negotiations with suppliers
- Ownership of supplier qualification and audits
- Negotiate SLAs with suppliers, vendors & third parties
- Negotiate cost/pricing, vendor performance / cost analysis
- Conduct customer price analysis
- Maintain strong internal controls and audit trails producing timely management reports
- Sets specific performance goals & evaluate performance
- Training and development of staff
- Plan annual marketing plan in conjunction with the Head of Business Development and the Marketing Consultant
Requirements
- Relevant commercial tertiary qualification (BCom degree with Honours / CIMA / MBA)
- 10 years experience in similar role
- Financial and margin management and pricing strategies, Forex experience
- Strong understanding of international IMPORT SUPPLY CHAIN management and distribution
- Production, logistics and management of procurement functions
- Ability to analyse performance metrics / market trends with negotiation and influencing skills
- Good understanding of accounting principles & practices, systematic and meticulous
- Knowledge of domestic warehousing and courier operations
- Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft 365 products and ERP systems
Qualifications
- Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.)
