Maintenance Manager A permanent opportunity to lead, plan, and control all maintenance activities across production equipment and site facilities to ensure maximum plant availability, operational reliability, and safety. The roles are based in the Ottery or Philippi branch within the packaging sector. About Our Client The company operates within the manufacturing and packaging sector, focusing on production equipment, site facilities, and utilities. The organization utilizes advanced engineering systems, automation, and structured maintenance frameworks to drive sustainability and environmental impact awareness. The Role: Maintenance Manager The Maintenance Manager exists to lead, plan, and control all maintenance activities across production equipment and site facilities. The role contributes to the business by ensuring maximum plant availability, operational reliability, and safety at an optimal total cost while driving preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. The main focus areas involve governing legal compliance as the legally appointed GMR 2.1 competent person, leading a multi-disciplinary technical team, and directly supervising the safe use, operation, and maintenance of all machinery on site. Key Responsibilities Manage 710 years of industrial maintenance experience, including 35 years in a leadership or supervisory role within a manufacturing environment. Act as the designated, legally appointed GMR 2.1 competent person supervising site machinery to ensure total compliance with the OHS Act and General Machinery Regulations. Own and execute the maintenance master plan across preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance frameworks using a Computerized Maintenance Management System. Implement Reliability-Centred Maintenance, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and root cause analysis methodologies to resolve operational losses. Deploy and govern the Computerized Maintenance Management System, including the asset register, Bills of Materials, PM routines, work order management, backlog control, and equipment history. Support high equipment availability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness through disciplined PM compliance, breakdown responses, and effective technical escalation. Lead, coach, and develop the technical maintenance team consisting of Maintenance Supervisors, Artisans, and Technicians while managing the annual maintenance OPEX and CAPEX budgets. Apply company quality principles, adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices, and strictly comply with site-specific Food Safety Management Systems and FSSC standards. About You Grade 12 secondary education. National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or an equivalent technical engineering discipline. 710 years of experience in industrial maintenance, including 35 years in a leadership or supervisory role within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated experience managing a CMMS, driving reliability methods, executing TPM, and managing statutory legal compliance. In-depth knowledge of SANS/Electrical wiring regulations, pressure systems, and lifting equipment regulations. Advanced fault-finding capabilities across mechanical, electrical, and automation/instrumentation systems and utility infrastructure. Strong capabilities in engineering project management, operational budgeting, and vendor/contractor management. Highly organized, results-oriented, emotionally intelligent, clear communicator, with strong attention to detail and a decisive, urgent approach to problem-solving. Genuine passion for advancing a career within the packaging sector with an active appreciation for environmental impacts and sustainability concerns. A relevant Trade Test certification is highly advantageous.
