About the Role
We are seeking an experienced CNC Setter / Manual Machinist to join our team in Durban, working on night shifts (18:00pm – 06:00am). As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for preparing and operating various machine tools, ensuring high-quality output and meeting strict tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing CNC mills or lathes from scratch, including loading programs, installing work-holding devices (vises, chucks, fixtures), and touching off tools.
- Producing the first component of a batch and inspecting it to ensure it perfectly matches the technical drawing/blueprint, including GD&T requirements.
- Making tool geometry and wear offsets in the controller (Fanuc) to ensure accuracy.
- Identifying and fixing problems with programs, speeds, feeds, or tooling during production.
- Selecting appropriate cutting tools, holders, and inserts for the material being machined.
- Operating manual lathes, milling machines, or drill presses for secondary operations, tool modification, or low-volume prototypes.
- Creating custom jigs and fixtures to hold parts in CNC machines for maximum efficiency and quality.
- Using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, and indicators to check part dimensions.
- Ensuring all parts meet quality standards and strict tolerances.
- Completing in-process inspection sheets and production logs (routing cards) to track progress.
- Breaking edges and finishing parts, often by hand or using manual tools after they come off the machine.
Requirements
- Matric N4 in Mechanical Engineering Skills
- Minimum of 5 years experience working as CNC Setter (ideal)
- Fanuc Tooling Knowledge
- Manual Machining skills
