About the Role
A leading organisation operating across utilities, municipalities, and smart technology solutions is seeking a General Ledger Accountant to join its finance team in Durban. The ideal candidate will be a technically strong accounting professional who thrives on precision, structure, and ownership of the general ledger function.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the full general ledger function
- Reviewing GL accounts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Processing journals, accruals, deferrals, and reclassifications
- Performing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving variances
- Reviewing third-party transactions for accuracy and compliance
- Ensuring effective financial controls and regulatory adherence
- Supporting the preparation of financial statements and reporting schedules
- Preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation
- Liaising with internal and external auditors to resolve queries
- Overseeing banking and treasury reconciliations
- Managing foreign exchange transactions and related accounting
- Maintaining the fixed asset register
- Coordinating annual asset verification
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- 35 years of experience in General Ledger or Financial Accounting
- Strong understanding of IFRS and VAT
- Experience working with SAP
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office
- Exposure to audit preparation and external audit support
- Strong analytical ability with excellent attention to detail
